About the Job
The Oswego County Solid Waste Department has an immediate opening for an Equipment Mechanic II to perform a wide variety of fabricating and welding tasks, and more difficult automotive and machinery repairs. The work involves good knowledge of the trade along with various methods, tools and equipment.  Supervision may be exercised over subordinates and responsibility for the garage operation may be undertaken in the absence of the Garage Supervisor.
 
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or certificate in automotive technology or diesel  equipment technology and one (1) year of experience in skilled automotive repair
  • OR Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma two (2) years of experience in skilled automotive repair 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Possession of a current, valid, Class B NYS driver’s license at time of appointment. 
  • Maintenance of license required throughout the course of employment.
 
NOTE: 
Candidates who do not meet the qualifications for the level II mechanic, may be considered for level I (level I qualifications require one less year of experience than noted above and require possession of a Class B license within 12 months of employment) and promoted to Equipment Mechanic II after gaining the required experience.
 
Pay Rate: $28.52 per hour plus competitive benefit package including health, life, dental and vision insurance, and NYS Retirement. The Equipment Mechanic I rate is $27.45 per hour.
