Oswego County Social Services’ Mental Hygiene division has an immediate opening for a Mental Hygiene Law Program Specialist to coordinate, monitor, and support the Division’s Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program and related activities. The position serves as the Division’s subject-matter expert regarding AOT requirements and designated areas of New York State Mental Hygiene Law and provides technical guidance to staff, service providers, referral sources, and other stakeholders. The Mental Hygiene Law (MHL) Program Specialist coordinates complex cases from referral and record review through investigation, clinical review, court petition development, hearings, and ongoing treatment monitoring. The position serves as a primary liaison among the Division, treatment providers, psychiatrists and other physicians, the County Attorney’s Office, Mental Hygiene Legal Service, the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS OMH), and other involved parties.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, behavioral health, public administration, criminal justice, or a closely related field, and two (2) years of professional experience in mental health, behavioral health, case management, care coordination, program administration, or a closely related human services field; OR associates degree in social work, psychology, human services, behavioral health, public administration, criminal justice, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of professional experience in mental health, behavioral health, case management, care coordination, program administration, or a closely related human services field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Starting Salary: $51,664 plus competitive benefits package including: health, life, dental and vision insurance; NYS Retirement; and Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
